  1. There are quite a few places in Cartersville that I would love to hear your thoughts about--Scotts, Slopes and Smokehouse Express to name a few. Also, do you have plans to check out the new JD's in Acworth? I'd love to hear how you think it compares to Woodstock.

  2. Scott's Walk Up is on my radar. They have tough hours, but I'm trying to go soon. The JD's in Acworth serves some of the best BBQ some days and then some of the worst. They need to iron out some of their consistency problems.

  3. Have you tried Rolling Bones on Edgewood Avenue in Atlanta? It's on par for beating Fat Matt's and is some of the best ribs and pork I've ever tasted. Give it a shot. I think it caught fire last month but is schedule to reopen this month.

  4. Check out Burnie's BBQ in Porterdale GA they have a number of different sauces that are out of this world. Saturday's are the best time to meet with the owner Burnie and he is just down home southern. Take the trip out I-20 to Porterdale and see for yourself.

  5. You might want to check out this bbq joint in Locust Grove, GA. Wow...this guy can smoke some "Q" awesome pull pork & ribs ! Name is Just Smoke "N" Around BBQ Take Out. Typically not your traditional sit down restaurant, but more on the "take out" theme. Owner has some great pull pork & ribs ! By the way owner competes in GBA competition circuit- rest assure his best will be served up. Give this joint a try -he is located inside the Shell Conveinence Store. 3248 Hwy 155 South Locust Grove, GA.

  6. You lose all credibility when your Wall of Fame bbq joints are all located in Metro Atlanta. Embrace the differences each locale offers and move away from the city-fied bbq.

  9. Come see us up here at Southern Smoq BBQ! Steve, our owner, was told for several years he should do something with his bbq because it was so good. Steve and his wife decided to open up their place in Flowery Branch, Ga!! I thoroughly enjoyed reading your blog!! ~Destiny

  11. I ate at Fat Matt's a couple of weeks ago. Not impressed. I think he par boils his ribs. Went behind his place and saw just a couple of bins of small sticks of hickory. Bottom line - if it is not cooked in a real pit with hickory then it's not real BBQ. I can tell the difference in pit and smoker BBQ. That being said Spiced Right in Lilburn use to have good BBQ. Have not eaten there in over 15 years.
Who remembers Hook's BBQ between Miledgeville and Sandersville? They had the only BBQ I have ever eaten that did not need sauce.

  12. You've been out I-20 East to Covington, head West back up to Conyers and give Mad Dog's BBQ a shot. If pulled pork is your thing, you'll find none better than Mad Dog's. I've eaten at Fox Bros., Community Q, 2 of your favorites. Mad Dog's pulled pork beats them handily. I must admit that his sides are not up to par with Community but they are atypical. The Stew is not their own but it's good. It's served at a LOT of other BBQ places, actually right across the street at Pippin's BBQ. Same supplier of stew. I've even eaten the same stew in Zebulon at another bbq joint. Mad Dog's is worth the drive.
